I knew that the bear was the emblem of Berlin, but I didn't know that, during the blooming of the lindens, more than 600 million bees, 15,000 hives, populate the city. Since long ago, the bears have deserted the Berlin forests, and boars and foxes have found a comfortable habitat in the city, where the temperature is 4 degrees higher than in the surrounding countryside. Berlin is decidedly the greenest city in Europe! And the city that produces the most honey in the world! In summer, professional beekeepers bring to the city thousands of hives to produce an excellent linden honey. The harvest is abundant: on average 30 kilos per hive. Amateur beekeepers produce up to 5 sorts of honey per season: linden, of course, but also maple, chestnut, acacia and honey tree (Tetradium danielli). But the buzz in Berlin doesn't stop there. The city counts 750 amateur beekeepers, fourteen beekeepers associations cover all the neighborhoods and 2,500 hives are set up all year round in the garden allotments, woods and forests.
